Wednesday, April 13th 2011. One Chief Technical Assistant with the Royal Brunei Police Force, Alias bin Hj Md Yusof was brought before the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan on two count of offence under section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Cap.131) and under section 165 of the Penal Code (Cap.22).

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Pengiran Nina Jasmine binti Pengiran Laila Kanun Di Raja Pengiran Haji Bahrin informed the Court investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that the defendant on or about 18th day of February 2010 at the Western Union Money Transfer in Malaysia, being an agent, did corruptly accept a gratification, to wit BND$700.00 (Brunei Dollars Seven Hundred) equivalent to RM1,650.96 (Ringgit Malaysia One Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Dollars and Ninety Six cents) for himself from one staff of a private company as reward to make recommendation for the company to be awarded a purchase order in the sum of BND$9,880 (Brunei Dollars Nine Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Dollars).

No plea was taken. Magistrate ordered for the defendant to be released on court bail in the sum of BND$5000.00 (Brunei Five Thousand) or one local surety. DPP Pengiran Nina Jasmine also requested for the defendant’s passport to be impounded and was granted by the Magistrate. The Chief Magistrate fixed 28th April 2011 as a further mention date.
