APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Working Group: Capacity Building Workshop on Exposing the Unseen Hands: Tackling the Concealment of Beneficiary Ownership, 19-20 October 2020.
In fulfilling the commitment of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Brunei Darussalam to the APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Working Group (ACTWG), the Human Resource Development Committee (HRD) facilitated the Workshop on Exposing the Unseen Hands: Tackling the Concealment of Beneficiary Ownership organized by the APEC ACTWG under the chairmanship of Malaysia through the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Malaysia.
The two days' workshop covers extensive topics and discussion on Beneficial Ownership in particular the role of Law Enforcement Agencies, the Financial Intelligence Unit and other Regulators. It also discussed on the challenges in investigating money laundering offences, transparency of beneficial ownership and vulnerabilities of specialists and intermediaries. The Workshop also discussed and shared on best practices in regulating, exposing and investigating beneficial ownership. Some of the speakers involved in the Workshop are representatives from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Malaysia, United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Asia Pacific Group - Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Central Bank Malaysia, AUSTRAC and Serious Fraud Office, New Zealand. The Workshop was also attended by few officers as observers.
