04.07.2016 Assistant Superintendent of Fire and Rescue and Managing Director found guilty

A public servant holding a position of Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department, Wadi bin Hj Mohd Tuah and the Managing Director of Syarikat Pro-Team Construction & Trading Sdn Bhd, Yap Tiew Hon, were sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan after found guilty on charges under the Penal Code (Chapter 22).

Wadi was found guilty on 2 charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22). For the first charge, investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that in November 2011, Wadi obtained for himself 550 homogenous tiles with a total value of B$605 (Six Hundred and Five Dollars) from Yap Tiew Hon, whom Wadi knew to have a connection with the official functions of himself as an Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department whose duty is to inspect and approve the Housing Development Project run by Syarikat Pro Team Construction & Trading Sdn Bhd. For the second charge, Wadi was found to have obtained 2 tons of cement with a total value of B$350 (Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars) from Yap Tiew Hon, whom Wadi knew to have a connection with the official functions of himself as an Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department whose duty is to inspect and approve the Housing Development Project run by Syarikat Pro Team Construction & Trading Sdn Bhd.

Magistrate’s Court found Yap Tiew Hon guilty for the offences under section 165 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22) read with section 109 of the same. Investigation by Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that Yap Tiew Hon abetted Wadi to commit the offence under section 165 of the Penal Code for giving Wadi 550 homogenous tiles with a total value of B$605 (Six Hundred and Five Dollars) and 2 tons of cement with a total value of B$350 (Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars).

The Senior Magistrate, Pg Masni bin Pg Haji Bahar sentenced the defendants for 12 months imprisonment for each charge. The Court ordered for the sentences to run concurrently thus the two defendants will serve a total sentence of 12 months imprisonment with effect from today.

Prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Goh. Wadi was represented by Yusof Halim while Yap Tiew Hon was represented by Balendran Balasingam and Haji Mohamad Rozaiman bin Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman.
